I had the pleasure of teaching Foundations of Animation Workshop once again at the Faculty of Arts, an introductory course focused on traditional techniques for those stepping into animation for the first time.
One of the exercises we explored was the classic “exquisite corpse,” which I’ve been developing over the years with different groups. And since I don’t enjoy just sitting back and watching —I tend to get a bit restless— I usually join in and work alongside the students.
This time, each participant animated roughly six seconds. The premise was simple: face the camera as if it were a mirror, and react freely from there. The goal was to intervene in every frame, constantly transforming into new characters and exploring the expressive potential of rotoscoping, without being tied to a conventional narrative logic.
The result is something I’m genuinely proud of.
We were also joined by the groups of my colleagues Carla Ikom and Oscar Clemente, which made the final piece even richer as a collective effort.
